Hi all, The series is more than pleased to announce that during the 2014 Indy Racing League season, four 500-mile races are on the schedule and some other important news and changes as well. The 500 milers The following races will be 500-miles long. - 1st Indy Racing League 500 (formerly known as the Indianapolis 250) - Pocono INDY 500 - The U.S. 500 (formerly known as The U.S. 250) - MAVTV 500 (formerly known as the MAVTV 250) Every driver who wins a 500 mile race will receive a 20 point bonus, the driver who wins all 500-mile races will receive a 100 points bonus in total (without that bonus winning all four 500-mile races would be worth 80 points, so basically it's a 20 points bonus.) Night races Night races will be held at the following tracks: - Texas Motor Speedway (Firestone 300k) - Iowa Speedway (Iowa Corn Indy 200) - Auto Club Speedway (MAVTV 500) Qualifying format on ovals The qualifying format has changed. On every oval the drivers will have to run 4 consecutive laps, while during the IRL 500 weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the drivers will still have to drive 6 consecutive laps. A very important change in the race rules On the road/street courses, every driver from now on has to run at least two laps on a set of hard tires and the soft (red) tire compound. The driver is completely free to choose on which tires he's going to qualify and on which tires he's going to start the race.
