After the Honda 100 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on May 19, schumacher180, driver of the #3 Penske Truck Rental car, had once again a great race weekend. He scored his 10th career pole, his 14th career win and for the record; celebrated that it has been one year since his last retirement bringing his consecutive race finishes to 17.
And now he is a TWO time champion!
But even more important, schumacher180 became a two time Indy Racing League champion. There were he became officially a champion last year, after he won the season finale at the 2-mile Auto Club Speedway oval, did he win the championship this season already while there are still 6 races to go on the schedule!
Goodbye for now #3, hello #1!
Although schumacher180 is a big fan of IndyCar Series driver Hélio Castroneves and loves his #3 car, Team Penske announced proudly that schumacher180 will be using the #1 car from Michigan onwards.
For clearance, that is allowed in the IRL, changing from car number mid-season?
In contrast to other racing series, in the IRL it is allowed that if a driver wins the championship before the season has ended, to drive the #1 car in the same season already. With this announcement, schumacher180 also announced of course that he will be using the #1 car from next season onwards of course for the complete 2014 IRL season.
Press Dog to schumacher180, right after the announcement: After two championships, still taking the #1 car, rather than the #3?[/i]
"Hey Press Dog! Well, you know.. I'm having a great career in a great series but due to circumstances, I don't know what is going to happen after the 2014 season when my 2 year contract ends at Team Penske. There might be some seasons in the near future in which I'm only able to compete in a couple of races or even the Indianapolis 250 only. When you're a part time driver, you can't win a championship and so never even get a chance to drive the #1 car, that's why I decided to go from car #3 to car #1 from now on because you never know... It's not very likely to be honest but maybe this is the last chance I have to ever drive the #1 car and I want to take that chance."
TO ALL IRL MEMBERS *: Since the next race at Michigan International Speedway is about a month, a new patch for the league mod will be released as soon as possible. This will contain the following fixes/updates:
- Hélio Castroneves' car will have car #1 instead of car #3.
- Track .gdb's will be fixed so we can use the Qualifying session for qualifying and the Warmup session for warmup because we have been using practice sessions for both sessions during this season so far.
- Baltimore start/finish straight fix.
And now he is a TWO time champion!
