The Indy Racing League it's second season has just started, but already 4 races have been completed in barely 2 month's of time. Yes, we are talking about the championship, which sort of started in September 2011, about 1,5 year ago.
One month later, on exactly the 1st of October, the forum of the league was made and so it became official that this league would start sooner or later. Two weeks after the official launch of the league it's site, something horrible would happen in the IZOD IndyCar Series, where this racing league is based on. The IZOD IndyCar Series lost Dan Wheldon, one of the stars of IndyCar racing during the season finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, when he was involved in a horrible 15-car pile up. The Indy Racing League, which also had planned to hold their season finale at the 1,5-mile high banked oval, decided to cancel the race and about a month later it was announced that they found in Auto Club Speedway the perfect replacement, in order to keep the race schedule on 17 venues (18 races with the double header at Texas Motor Speedway included).
The first season started ultimately on November 11, when lexieboy took the checkered flag to win the inaugural event. The inaugural Indianapolis 250 (based on the IZOD IndyCar Series it's Indianapolis 500) was won by juanpaf1, after dominating the whole race weekend there.
Ultimately the season was highlighted by a battle for the championship between Panther Racing's Bartholomeus28 and Team Penske's schumacher180. When the season concluded, the points championship would be for schumacher180, he also took the A.J. Foyt Oval Trophy with him. The Mario Andretti Road Course Trophy would become Bartholomeus28's. Many saw Bartholomeus28 as the best driver on the road/street courses, while schumacher180 sometimes dominated on the ovals. One thing which schumacher180 had as well, was a thing called consistency. Summarized: If schumacher180 didn't win, he finished second. His worst result was a sixth place during the inaugural race, after a collision in turn 1 with parkuhr. He finished every race on the podium since, and won 6 races in the league it's inaugural season. Despite Bartholomeus28 would win 8 times, the title was his and not Bartholomeus28's. After the championship was concluded, schumacher180 admitted that Bartholomeus28 was a true rival and very hard to beat.
The 2012-2013 Indy Racing League season started after 3 month's of no racing in November, and schumacher180 kicked of the season with two wins. He won the Dan Wheldon Indy Grand Prix at St. Petersburg, something where he is very happy about, since the death of Dan Wheldon is something which is still going on his mind every single day. At the streets of Long Beach, rookie Alain Prost took the checkered flag after having led every lap during the 42 lap race. As expected, the very consistent schumacher180 finished in second place. Two weeks later at the streets of Sao Paulo, Chip Ganassi Racing rookie, loetkoe would take his first ever win in his first ever Indy Racing League event. He is only the third driver to do so, lexieboy and qalbi did it before at the streets of St. Petersburg and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course respectively.
As expected: schumacher180 finished second at the streets of Sao Paulo, despite the fact that he didnt start on the front row for only the 5th time of his career. It was his worst qualifying position since Texas Motor Speedway Race #2 last season, he started fourth for the second time of his career. It became indeed the second time of his career that he started outside the top 3 of an Indy Racing League event. Luckily for schumacher180 and even more for the rest of the Indy Racing League stars, there's one month of no racing because of preparations for the next event, the Indianapolis 250, the biggest race of the league. For schumacher180 it's very simple: He wants to win this race, and he has a huge chance to do so. He's known as the leagues' star on the left turn circuits but the league has changed a lot this season.
Since this season, the Indy Racing League went in the footsteps of the IZOD IndyCar Series by changing the old Dallara IR-05 chassis for brand new DW12 chassis' and Chevrolet, Lotus and Honda as the three engine manufacturers, rather than Honda as the lone engine manufacturer like how it was in the inaugural 2011-2012 Indy Racing League season.
One thing is sure and that's that this Indy Racing League season will be as exciting- if not even more exciting than the inaugural season of racing.
